The New Reynard Shield--Now with More Boring Pics Below the Cut

Bryce had it right, the pic below is the bottom point edge of my new shield from the amazing Baron Reynard. Front and back are two laminations of marine plywood, with a core of some high-tech foam hexagon stuff used in boat hull construction. The entire face is fiberglassed, and the edges are double fiberglassed. It's about 7/8" thick, but about 40% lighter than a solid wood 7/8" shield. Tonight I mount the hardware and maybe get the canvas face on it.

Here's the bare, fiberglas reinforced edge.

Hardware Mounted.
The new shield is so close to the size and shape of the old one that I could use the liner fabric to set all the holes. That saved lots of time.
Since I took these pictures, I've pulled the cover off, removed the plastic pipe and replaced the cover.

Canvas added to the face.
You can't see it here, but the fabric cover for the back (as well as the pads that go under the cover) are glued on too. Final edge gluing has to wait for me to purchase some better glue to hold the canvas and the plastic edging on.
I'll definitely be able to use it this weekend for Tournament of Chivalry, but I'm not sure I'll have the crows added. Maybe if Kirk comes over to help.
And the reason why I needed a new shield:

What a mess. And that aluminum was welded into a single piece when it was new. Good thing, or this shield would have fallen apart even faster.

Weight
Me + Shield on scale - my weight = 15 Lbs.
That solidity saved my head at Tournament of Chivalry when Brian of Sacred Stone threw a deep wrap that would have blown through an aluminum cHeater shield, but got sucked up by this new beauty.
